THE RIGHT SNEAKER CLEANING
If you really love your sneakers, you will take good care of them. After all, you want to enjoy your shoes for as long as possible. The used look may be a trend - but you should know that it is not always smart to follow every trend. The used look is acceptable on the construction site, but not in everyday life. So do yourself and your sneakers a favor and deal with the care and cleaning of your shoes on a boring, rainy Sunday. The most important thing when cleaning sneakers is the processed materials in the shoe. So that you do not make any mistakes (we are not responsible for anything!), We will explain how you should proceed with an upper made of textile, suede, smooth leather, synthetic leather, and heavily soiled white sneakers.
This article is primarily about cleaning sneakers with a textile upper.
Rule 1: After each cleaning, the shoe should either be impregnated or rubbed with leather grease. So you have your beloved sneakers longer.
Rule 2: Even laces don't look as fresh after a while as they did at the beginning. Therefore, you should remove them before each maintenance, clean them by hand or simply in the washing machine or replace them with a few new ones.
How do I clean textile sneakers?
If the upper is largely made of fabric or mesh, the sneaker can be washed in the washing machine. If you are unsure, you can also do the cleaning by hand. For this you need the following things:
-
Soft brush
-
Lukewarm water
-
Detergent, shampoo or special sneaker cleaner / cleaning foam
-
Lint-free rag
-
Optional: sneaker wipes or wet wipes
And this is how you do it:
-
First brush off the coarse dirt.
-
If you want, you can clean all rubber surfaces (sole, emblems) with special wipes or normal wet wipes.
-
Dissolve detergent in the water. If you use Sneaker Cleaner, you can put it on the brush (never directly on the shoe).
-
Wet the brush and clean the shoe in a circular motion so that a layer of foam is created.
-
Moisten the rag with normal water and remove the shoe from the dirty foam.
-
Stuff the wet sneaker with newspaper and put it out to dry.
Are textile sneakers allowed in the washing machine?
You can easily put fabric sneakers like the classics from Converse or Vans and most shoes from Adidas in the washing machine. As with clothing, we recommend separating light and dark colors and washing the sneakers only at 30°.
It is best to remove the laces and the insole of the sneakers before washing them in the washing machine. You can use normal color detergent as a detergent. To dry, you should stuff the sneakers with newspaper so that the shoes dry faster and keep their shape. After a few hours in the sun, the shoe should be dry again.
